Pool Operation / Maintenance

FAQs

pool Operation

The fast and slow air buttons on the pool work 2 ways. If you press and release the button quickly it will increase/decrease the speed in very small increments. You can also press and hold in the fast / slow button for 5-6 seconds to increase / decrease the speed in larger increments. If you have the EDGE option, you can also control the speed of the current at the EDGE.

Yes, there is a stop bar at the back of the pool. Simply press firmly on the stop bar and the pool current will stop.

Making reasonable assumptions (pump 8 hours a day, swim 1 hour a day), we estimate the monthly consumption to be ~ 809 KWh per month in a residential application.

The ozonator takes oxygen, from ambient air, and draws it through a dielectric chamber to convert it to Ozone. This ozone will be mixed and dissolved in the water. Ozone is the strongest oxidizer commercially available. It is also a much more effective sanitizer than chlorine or bromine. It will kill bacteria and viruses thousands of times faster. However, ozone has a very short life. It does not leave a measurable residual in the water. That is why it is important to maintain a residual strength of chlorine or bromine in the water to protect swimmers and prevent algae. The ozonator works in conjunction with the chlorine or bromine in your SwimEx to reduce the consumption of chemicals.

For exercise – 78-82°F
Exercising at higher water temperature can lead to health problems.
For arthritis – Low 90°s
Heater is capable of reaching 104°F

pool Maintenance

Maintaining proper chemistry levels will help ensure the life of your home pool equipment. Use a water test kit and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Commercial pool owners should check with their local health codes to ensure compliance with their regulations.

Here is the volume of water in each pool:

Triton: 2940 gals / 11,129 L

400, 500 series: 2600 gals / 9842 L

480, 600 series: 3200 gals / 12,113 L

  • 2′ length extension: add 500 gals / 1893 L
  • Deep well option: add 100 gals / 379 L

800 series: 4900 gals / 18,549 L

  • 3′ length extension: add 997 gals / 3774 L

1000 series: 7700 gals / 29,148 L

  • 2′ length extension: add 900 gals / 3407 L

1500 T: 8960 gals / 33917 L

  • 2′ length extension: add 900 gals / 3407 L

Recommended chemistry specs:

Chlorine (without an ozonator) 1 ppm
Chlorine (with an ozonator) 0.6 – 0.8 ppm
Bromine (without an ozonator) 2.0 – 2.5 ppm
Bromine (with an ozonator) 1.5 – 2.0 ppm
pH: 7.2 – 7.6 (ideal 7.4)
Alkalinity: ~ 120 ppm
Calcium hardness: 200 – 300 ppm

Note: For commercial pools, check with your local code requirements.

In a residential application, we recommend operating the filtration pump at least 8 hours a day. Ideally you put a timer on the pump and run your filtration when the pool is normally not in use. For commercial pools, the filtration system runs 24 hours a day.

Yes, this will help to keep the heat in the water and keep evaporation down a minimum. A floating thermal blanket comes with the pool. Manual and hard top safety covers are available as options.

We recommend checking the water chemistry once a week and checking filter pressure monthly. Additionally, the annual maintenance includes: cleaning the pool, waxing the pool, changing the filter cartridge, greasing the grease zerk fittings on the bearings and possibly changing the oil in the gearbox.* (This is not necessary on units shipped after February 2011.) Lime-Away or CLR cleaner, Nu-Finish wax, 3M Marine wax, general purpose lithium grease and Mobil SHC-634 are the recommended products.

We recommend against the use of salt sanitizers. If not balanced properly it will lead to excessive chloramine being produced. This can cause fluctuation in pH and will make your water – and possibly air – corrosive, leading to rust on metal surfaces.

The gas heater does not require a vertical vent but venting is required through a sidewall. Ideally this will be located outside or in a well ventilated location. A CO detector should be used if located indoors.

Mark down the filter pressure from the gauge on top of the canister when the filter is clean. When the pressure goes up 5 lbs above the starting (clean) pressure it is time to take out the cartridge filter and clean it.
